...and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, to love kindness, and walk humbly with your God? - Micah 6:8
Welcome to St. John's - God's love is here!
Empowered by the unconditional love of Christ, St. John's Lutheran Church seeks to be a diverse and compassionate congregation that embodies God's love in Atlanta and in the world.

As a family of friends, we gather in a circle around gifts of bread and wine so that we might experience together genuine reconciliation and receive strength for the life of faith. We won't claim to have all the answers, but we do trust that God will always be with us on the journey as we ask the questions. Every Sunday, we expect to hear ancient words of good news made powerfully relevant for our lives and for the world in which we live. As Lutheran Christians, we give thanks for a vibrant history that still calls for us to be agents of reform in the church and in the world.

Because Jesus called us to be a church in a diverse and urban environment, we are called to make sure that the face of our congregation reflects all the faces that live in our neighborhood and beyond. Diversity is a gift that helps us to be more faithful. We are committed to be generous with our gifts of time, talent, and wealth for this joyful mission of hospitality, reconciliation, and justice in our neighborhood, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and in the world.

Experiencing God Through our History I. With the New Year, the adult learning hour (Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m.) will focus around the theme, "Experiencing God," with each segment focusing on a different way that we can connect with God. Join us this Sunday as Ann Gerondelis continues our discussion on how St. John's has experienced God through it's history. Bring an item (picture, bulletin, keepsake, craft, etc) that points to some aspect of your history with the church. New to the church? Join us to step into the stream of God's grace that's been flowing through this congregation since 1869. In future segments, we'll explore art, music, architecture, Biblical poetry, and dreams.

Experiencing God Through our History II. On Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m., Marilyn Somers, Director of the Georgia Tech Living History Project (http://livinghistory.gatech.edu/), will make a presentation about initiating a living history program at St. John's. She will discuss the advantages of recording the history of people who lived it in relationship to the church, practical uses of research and multimedia, and equipment and training needed. She will give examples of pictures, interviews, and web pages, as well as answer questions about starting our own living history program. All interested members and friends are invited to attend this presentation and help us get started with recording our history.

Job Opportunities Seminar. Interested in a new job opportunity? Please join us for a seminar series immediately after church on the following Sundays: February 12th and 26th and March 4th and 18th. Please bring your resume and a copy of your LinkedIn profile (if you have one). Each seminar will last approximately one hour and will take place in Lefstead Hall. John Yates will be the facilitator.

Living Lutheran Means... Check out the St. John's video "A Place of Love and Justice" to see what some of our members say it means to "Live Lutheran". The Living Lutheran contest has now concluded and the winners will be announced at the ELCA Churchwide Assembly. Although we didn't get the most votes, the judges' decisions will be announced in August. Thank you to everyone who voted, tried to vote, and/or encouraged others to vote for us!!
